• First permanent settlement, 300-200 BC

• Northern-most Roman Limes in Danubian region

• Capital of 9th Century Great Moravian Empire

• 11th Century Hungarian capital during Islamic occupation

• Coronation seat of Hapsburg monarchs

• Largest Slovak city in both interwar and com-munist Czechoslovakia

• Since 1993, it is the metropolis and capital of the Slovak Republic
