Experience the Creative Economy
Toronto, Canada
University of Toronto, University of Toronto
Experience the Creative Economy was a unique conference which allows scholars new in their careers to experience notions of the creative economy in a small and focused setting. This conference will brought together up to 25 individuals with similar research interests to share their work, receive feedback, foster the development of effective research methods and to establish an ongoing framework of collaborative learning and mutual exchange for years to come.
In addition to the standard conference agenda of facilitating the exploration of emergent literatures and theories related to predetermined topics, the conference encouraged participants to experience the creative economy on multiple levels, such as:
The Theoretical Level: conceptual discussions of the creative economy and its effects on industries, labour markets, cities, individuals, and institutions.
The Empirical Level: exchanging experiences and methods related to researching these topics in the field.
The Practical Level: through a series of applied workshops, participants learned and share technical skills such as advanced statistics, network analysis, mapping/GIS and research design and professional development strategies related to grant writing, publishing, presentations, and career paths.
The Participatory Level: a series of excursions to venues outside of the conference venue encouraged participants to actively engage with and evaluate elements of Toronto’s creative economy.
