The Association of County Councils in Denmark is an autonomous body that represents the interests of all 14 Danish counties, and provides them with services and information. Frederiksberg enjoys a special status as both a county and local authority, which means that it is responsible for carrying out regional and local tasks that would be performed separately in the rest of the country either by a county or a local authority. Green City Denmark was initiated by the Danish Ministry of Business and Industry in co-operation with the Ministry of the Environment and Energy, the aim being to establish a visible showcase for Danish environmental technology and know-how. The municipalities of Århus, Silkeborg, Ikast, Herning and Videbæk and the counties of Ringkjøbing and Århus - the area also referred to as "The Green Belt" - would act as the showcase.
