CULTISM
Master Plans for the Development of Cultural Tourism
Two
significant travel trends will dominate the tourism market
in the next decade according to tourist operators:
I. Mass marketing is giving way to one-to-one marketing
with travel being tailored to the interests of the individual
consumer;
II. A growing number of visitors are becoming special interest
travellers who rank cultural activities as one of the top
five reasons for travelling.
In this context, and taking into account that the ESDP has
selected the area of “The Natural and Cultural Heritage”
as one of those major areas that interact and exert considerable
pressure on the spatial development of the European Union,
scope of the CULTISM Project is to explore the opportunities
& build on the strengths of cultural tourism, which can
act as a vehicle for economic & social cohesion and balanced
spatial development in the participating regions, eliminate
seasonality of tourism in the respective areas and achieve
differentiation in the tourism product, through the development
of policies at a transnational level for exploiting the
opportunities offered by cultural tourism.
Thus,
the project aimed at:
1) Improving the visibility of cultural assets & natural
wealth of the participating areas,
2) Reducing seasonality, differentiating tourism product
and improving quality of tourists,
3) Creating networks among project partners and other stakeholders,
4) Raising awareness among interested parties,
5) Stimulating entrepreneurship and employment in tourism.
