The renewal of station's areas
In 1990 the Second Transport Structure Plan came to light,
featuring the Rail 21 plan for supporting Public Transport.
This plan forsees high-speed lines to Germany and France.
The progress of privatization of the Dutch railways is quite
advanced compared to other European countries. There are now
four independent societies; one of them is the NS Station
that is responsable for all the 378 station.

Breda
(Abitanti: 162.308)
Breda is a town between the so called Randstad and other
European urban aeras. The connection to the high-speed railway
network should constitute the basis for a healthy economic
and environmental development of the town. Fundamental point
is the renewal of the whole station area (called Spoorzone),
where offices, hotels, restaurants, stores will be located
(but even housing with 400 dwelling units).

s-Hertogenbosch
(Abitanti: 128.009)
'S-Hertogenbosch (also known as Den Bosch) has seen a vivid
urban grow in the last years. Due to the transformation of
the railway area, the station building and the square will
become an even more important centre of the town.

Around the station, within the new district Paleiskwartier,
180,000 m² will be used in the form of 1,400 dwelling
units and offices; besides that, there will be a cultural
and a commercial centre and law courts.

Hengelo
(Abitanti: 80.433)
Hengelo is a major town in the district of Twente. Actually,

Tilburg
(Abitanti: 195.819)
The Tilburg station is a good example how the roof contruction
contributes to the general and unique aspect of a station
(built in the 70ies by Van der Gaast). In these days the station
area turns to be again in the focus of urban renewal actions.

Utrecht
(Abitanti: 256.420)
Utrecht is the second largest railway station in the Netherlands;
it is served by 500 trains every day. Not only for that reason
the station area is an important element within the urban
structure. The Master Plan from the year 1993 forsees new
offices (300,000 m²), commercial activities (25,000 m²),
residential zones (950 units), a third concert hall, a theater
and an art gallery.
