Introduction - Liège Guillemins - Anversa - Namur

The renewal of station's areas

The Belgium rail network is one of the densiest in Europe; the ongoing modernisation addresses both international and national/regional sections.

The modernisation program includes the railway stations; the aim is to transform them from their basic transport function into spots of urban life and commerce. Examples of such metamorphoses are Bruxelles-Midi, Antwerpen-Centraal, Gent-Sint-Pieters, Liège-Guillemins, Namur e Lovanio.

Liège Guillemins

The station of Liège Guillemins is characterized by its both monumental and fluid aspect; the cover is made of steel while there are no 'traditional' façades.

Euro Liège TGV should contribute to the renewal of the urban area close to the station and the river Meuse. As this river is a major landmark of Liège, it will be linked to the train station by a new channel (length: 450m). The result is not only a extraordinary open space but even the basement for a traffic interchange between rail and water.

Anversa

To expand the capacity of the Anversa Central Station 4 platforms are added during the general renovation. The functional organization of the station will be arranged on 4 floors.

Namur

The Namur station is an important node in the Vallonian rail network. Although the existing station building has a charming nostalgic effect, the decision was made in favor of a general renovation.
