Architectural and landscape quality - L.R. 16/2002 On 15 July 2002, the Region approved Regional Law no. 16 "Regulations on the restoration of historical-artistic buildings and the promotion of the architectural and landscape quality of the territory"; this document updated the earlier regulations of 1989 with which the Region had financed over 150 feasibility studies and plans for the recovery of building heritage and 430 interventions for the restoration of buildings of historical-artistic interest. The goal is to extend the experience obtained with Regional Law no. 19 of 1998 on urban renewal, paying special attention to smaller centres and the city centres characterised by these valuable structures requiring interventions geared primarily to conservation as opposed to transformation purposes. At the same time, the goal is to promote through innovative regulations for nation-wide application, the quality of new architectural works and the role of artistic projects in the renewal of public spaces as well as to encourage the demolition of buildings deemed incongruent with the landscape and the environmental context.
Currently underway is the first regional operational program, following a call for bids issued in March 2004, with resources available worth ca 10 million Euro. The goal of this regional program is to select projects to be assigned the contributions intended for public and private organisations.
