What is the ADEF doing ?
ADEF (Association des Etudes Foncières) or Association of Land Studies,
was created on April 1981, as an attempt to give rise to exchange
and cooperation among people who are confronted, on a professional
or academic level, with the problems of land use.
It is a non-for profit organization, whitch groups over one hundred
members : scholars (lawyers, econonústs, geographers, sociologists,
etc.) ; elected offícials and civil servants (Urban affairs, Agriculture,
Treasury, local governments) and concernei professionale (developers,
builders and surveyors, notaries, valuers...).
ADEF publishes a quarterly review (Etudes foncìères) intended for
a specialized audience, presenting a variety of ideas and experiences
pertaining to land planning and management.
ADEF has organized various meetings and symposiums as well as working
groups, notably through a network of "Land Market Observatories".
ADEF has also published books (cf. list), some of them originating
in colloquiums or seminars, some written in English, as well as
a series of books and case studies entitled "Politiques foncières
comparées" (compared land policies) in Germany, Belgium, Danemark,
Spain, Great-Britain, Italy, Holland, Portugal and Sweden.

ADEF is also completing specific studies, mostly for public authorities
such as Ministries (Urban Affairs, Environment, Agriculture), EEC,
Coastal Areas Public Land Bank, DATAR and local govemments. It has
also evaluated land policy in various parts of France, e.g. Caen,
Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. At the national level, some statistica
analyses on land and property markets have been carried out.
ADEF also cooperates with a number of foreign similar organizations,
such as the Intemational Center for Land Policy Studies, in Cambridge,
various centers in Japan, Great-Britain, Germany, Belgium, Italy
and Spain. Furthermore, ADEF intends to reinforce its cooperation
with foreign organizations including the EEC and European Council.
