Objectives of the Doctoral Program:
The intervention, maintenance and the administration of the existing
built patrimony, that require a high degree of knowledge and of
organization at many levels, from planning to maintenance, from
historic/archeological research, to sophisticated techniques of
survey and diagnosis, together with refined studies on the materials
and structures of the historic centers.
This Doctorate has the aim of preparing an operator who can influence
at a high level the conservation and maintenance practice and the
administration of the existing patrimony; this with special attention
to the most ancient one also with continuous contact with other
European organization with the same aim.
Contents of the Doctoral Program:
The Doctoral course wants to offer a wide spectrum of subjects in
which theory and practice melt together, in order to give stimulation
to advanced research also multidisciplinary one as necessary for
more and more productive results in the field of conservation and
maintenance of historic buildings. Courses and experimental and
laboratory activities concern the following subjects: history and
theory of protection and restoration, constructive techniques of
the historic patrimony, study and calibration of non destructive
investigation for the structural diagnosis of historic buildings,
analytical and experimental methods and research on the appropriate
and non invasive techniques for repair and strengthening also including
the prevention techniques for the safety of buildings in seismic
areas, research on materials of historic buildings and on their
decay, history of the manuals and of the architectonic literature,
methodology of the architecture archeology, techniques for survey
and storage of data, courses on the building physics and on the
installations in historic buildings, performance analyses, principles
and techniques of the restoration project, codes and rules of cultural
properties, environment protection, history and conservation of
historic gardens, museology and museography.
