Stefano Boeri
Stefano Boeri, born in 1956, is a Milan-based architect. He studied architecture in Milan and obtained his PhD in 1989 from IUAV in Venice.
He is currently editor in chief of ABITARE magazine and teaches Urban Design at Milan Polytechnic. His studio in Milan (Boeri Studio) focuses on architecture and urban design. He has organised numerous interdisciplinary exhibitions as well as initiating various research projects, among which Uncertain States of Europe (USE) and Border Device(s), as well as the Multiplicity network. A Multiplicity installation, Solid Sea, was exhibited at Documenta XI in Kassel in 2002

Flavio Boscacci
Flavio Boscacci is currently Professor in Economics in the Department of Architecture and Planning, Polytechnic of Milan. Previously, he has been Lecturer at the Catholic University of Milan and Associate Professor at the University of Cagliari. He has also been Visiting Research Assistant at the Cornell University (NY) and at the University of California Davis (CA).
He is a Faculty member of the Doctorate in Urban Policies and Projects (PoliMi P.h.D.) and of the Alta Scuola Politecnica (A.S.P.- Polytechnic Interuniversity Partnership).
He is author of a large number of scientific publications about the relationship among economics, land and urban areas and about the economic and financial evaluation of infrastructural and urban projects.
He used to be and still is an Independent Member of the Board of Directors of some relevant Financial and Industrial Companies. He is the Director of the Economics, Logistics and Territory Laboratory (LabELT) at the Department of Architecture and Planning (DiAP), where economic theories are applied to the teaching initiatives and to those research projects concerning economic and social actors (i.e. Public Administrations, at the different levels, and private companies operating in several economic fields).

Massimo Bricocoli
Massimo Bricocoli, holds a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning. He is currently Assistant Professor at DiAP, Politecnico di Milano. He is lecturing Urban Ethnography to graduate students in Urban Planning at Politecnico di Milano and Social work and Space to students in Interculturality and Social Citizenship at the Università di Cà Foscari in Venice.
At the Faculty of Architecture and Society – Politecnico di Milano - he is delegate of the Dean for the Internationalisation Project. He is Programme Leader of a the US/UE Atlantis Project developed with the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of the West of England on 'Urban regeneration in globalising cities: a transatlantic undergraduate planning programme' (Resp. Prof. Alessandro Balducci).
Among main research interests are: urban policies at the neighbourhood level, safety policies, institutions and local governments in action. On these subjects he has been developing research and consultancy work for National and International institutions (such as Plan Urbain Construction Architecture - French Ministry for Public Works, Region Lombardia, Region Friuli Venezia Giulia, City of Vienna, City of Milano, City of Torino) as well as contributing to seminars and conferences in Italy and abroad.
Founding member of the research group Sui generis – Laboratory for Sociology of Public Action , at the Department of Sociology, Università di Milano Bicocca and since 2004 member of the City Reformers Group at CASE/London School of Economics. In the year 2006-2007 he has been contributing (with Ota de Leonardis and Antonio Tosi) to a research seminar promoted by Jacques Donzelot on the issue Ville, Insecurité civile, Insecurité sociale for the French Ministry of Public Works.

Luigi Mazza
Luigi Mazza, professor of planning at the Politecnico di Milano, chair of the PhD Programme in Urban Projects and Policies
Honorary Fellow of the School of Planning, Oxford Brookes University. External Examiner, University College London. Member of the Town Planning Review, Planning Theory, European Planning Studies editorial boards.
Mazza was a UN consultant for the implementation of the master plan of Nicosia, Cyprus. Adviser on land use policies to the Land State Committee, People Republic of China, and lecturer to the officers of the Committee at the Peking University. Consultant on a research project on the property market in Europe, co-ordinated by the University of Dortmund on behalf of the Bundesbauministerium, the German Federal Ministry of Public Works; project leader of the Italian group of a British-Italian research project on the ‘sustainable city’, sponsored by a Cee (Ivonne Rydin, London School of Economics, project leader of the British Group). Mazza gave seminars and lectures in some British universities; at the Nordic Institute for Studies in Urban and Regional Planning, Stockholm; Amsterdam University; Karlsruhe University; Institute of Economics, USSR Academy of Science in Moscow; Center for Regional Studies, Hungarian Academy of Sciences; Institute of Space Economy, University of Warsaw; and visited the schools of planning of UCLA, Berkeley, Cornell, MIT, Philadelphia and Madison.
Planning consultant to the local government of Alessandria, Desio, Lecco, Pinerolo, Trino Vercellese, Casale Monferrato, Chieri, Torino and Milano. Consultant to the national government for the landscape studies of the Gargano Region; consultant to the regional government of Lombardia for airport location and planning; and for the location of a nuclear power station; to the regional government of Piemonte for the preparation of the subregional plans. Scientific consultant to the Triennale di Milano for the XVII International Exhibition ‘World Cities and the Future of the Metropolis’. Consultant to the Chamber of Commerce of Milan for the relocation of financial services and the stock exchange; to the Association of Metropolitan Interests, Milan; project leader of a industrial and land use rehabilitation plan of a steel plant, for the Regional Government of the Aosta Valley. Team leader of the group for the preparation of the ‘strategic’ land use plan of Milan, he is currently an advisor of the municipal evaluation committee for the implementation of the plan.

Corinna Morandi
Associated Professor in Town Planning at the Politecnico di Milano. Since 1980 takes part in the research activity of the Dipartimento di Scienze del Territorio - now Dipartimento di Architettura e Pianificazione, Politecnico di Milano, and of other international bodies. The main research area developed concerns town planning in the metropolitan area of Milan, comparison of urban and regional planning strategies and urban policies in Europe, relationship between commerce and city. Member of the board of the Ph. Degree in Pianificazione Urbana Territoriale e Ambientale, Politecnico di Milano and of the Ph. Degree in Ciudad, Territorio y Patrimonio of the Universidad Iberoamericana , Puebla (Messico). Member of the Scientific committee of the Centro per le Relazioni internazionali, Politecnico di Milano. Responsible for the DiAP Research Unit 'Methods and Techniques of Urban Planning', in 1998 has started Urb&Com, a Laboratory for studies concerning Commerce and Territory. Member of the scientific committee of the Master Degree Design and management of urban retail settings.

Gabriele Paqui
Gabriele Pasqui (1965), is Associate Professor of Urban Management and Local Development Policies at Milan Polytechnic, and scientific director of a Master in Development and cohesion programmes and policies. His key scientific interests include local development policies, strategic planning, urban governance. During the last two years member of research groups about Local development projects in Lombardy (coordinator: Gabriele Pasqui), Metropolitan innovation, governance and social capital in four italian metropolitan areas in the ‘90s (coordinator: Bruno Dente) and Milan region strategic plan (coordinator: Alessandro Balducci).

Marco Ponti
Marco Ponti (Varese 1941) is at present full professor of Transport Economics at the Politecnico University of Milan, president of the TRT Ltd consulting company, and member of the scientific committee of the World Conference of Transport Research.
He has been consultant for the European Commission, the OECD-CEMT, and, for several years, of the World Bank and the Italian railways.
He has been economic advisor of several transport ministers in Italy, responsible for chapters of both the first and the second national transport plans, and consultant for the ministry of Economic Affairs for the regulation of toll highways and airports.
He is author of an extended number of scientific publications, and writes regularly on Italian newspapers on transport-related issues.

Costanzo Ranci

Visiting Scholar at the School of Social Welfare, University of California, Berkeley, 1992-93, with a grant from CNR-NATO Advanced Fellowships Programme. Scientific adviser at the Chamber of Commerce of Milan. Previously adviser at the following institutions: Regione Lombardia, Assessorato Politiche Sociali; Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri, Dipartimento Affari Sociali; Ministero della Solidarietà Sociale;Consiglio Nazionale Economia e Lavoro.
Scientific director of Master in Social Planning. Design, management and evaluation of Social Policies.
Member of the scientific board of the Italian Journal of Social Policy .
I have published numerous articles and books on social policy and the welfare state, the third sector and voluntary organizations, social exclusion and social risks, social movements. My interests include the following fields: voluntary action and the third sector: the management of nonprofit organizations, the involvement of private bodies in public policy; social risks and social exclusion: the growth of new social risks and new forms of vulnerability as a consequence of the crisis of the fordist model of organization of society; social policy: privatization of public services, new forms of governance, the growth of social care markets, changes in social care.
