INTEGRATED STRATEGIC DESIGN FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF
ARCHITECTURAL, URBAN ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES
2nd level university master course
Director :
prof. Sergio Crotti

Deputy Director: Prof. Ilaria Valente

The Master Course is conducted in scientific cooperation of the Ecole d’Architecture de Paris Belleville (France) and the Escola Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona (Spain) and under the patronage of the Roll of Architects, Planners, Landscape Designers and Curators of the Province of Milan, the National Architecture Institute IN/ARCH, the Italian Environment Fund FAI, and the Civita Association.

Goals

The “Integrated strategic design for the development of architectural, urban and environmental resources” 2nd level University Master Course meets the urgent need to train, as prescribed by the EU directives, highly qualified professionals with an excellent technical-management expertise in the field of reclamation, revamping and innovation of sites affected by degradation, disrepair, and dismantling, or in the field of development, promotion and enhancement of sites whose high qualitative potential can be revealed through innovative strategic-design solutions integrated with simultaneous activities on inferred conditions, sophisticated procedures and foreshadowed results.

The need for high-level professionals with orientation, coordination and overall project direction skills is highlighted by the inadequate technical and professional skills presently available on the market against the complex phenomena occurring in metropolitan areas in Europe and worldwide, where settlement dynamics lead to the disintegration and estrangement of large areas of high urban and environmental value, which become unrecognizable due to the acceleration of street, transportation, and technological infrastructures, since, despite their sophisticated interconnection links, these infrastructures lead to the segregation, fragmentation and homogeneity of the different areas, and erase the denotative wealth of urban and environmental architectural structures in the different European regions.

This originates the meaningfulness of an annual post-graduate in-depth study program aimed at the specialization of designer architects’ professional role needed for the strategic direction of activity programs on an international level, with respect to new highly qualified technical performance requirements in terms of critical control, interdisciplinary direction and operational methodology.

The “Integrated strategic design for the development of architectural, urban and environmental resources” Master Course aims at providing young graduates in Architecture as well as Civil and Building Engineering with a specific critical, methodological, technical and professional training, supplementing university education, capable of enhancing the knowledge base for the design of architecture, the city and the environment.

The high profile of designers with Master Course qualifications, features a consolidated mastery of theoretical-practice, acquired as basic concepts, methods and operating tools, thanks to the integration of the different disciplines constituting the design with the skills originating from other areas concurring to the decision-making process.
The curriculum provides 63 credits, and a total of 800 teacher/hours, i.e., 1500 student/hours, distributed between teaching and training activities.
Teaching activities include lectures, application laboratories and specialized seminars.
