Ottavia Aristone
Ottavia Aristone graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in Pescara and had her thesis published at the Triennale in Milan. She is a researcher in urban planning in DART at the above faculty and editor of the review Piano Progetto Cittą. Her research has centred around urban planning and urban and territorial policies. Currently she is involved in a Murst national research inter-university research project - Modelli di applicazione della Valutazione Ambientale Strategica alla pianificazione urbana (Models for applying Environmental Strategy Evaluation to urban planning) - which is being conducted in collaboration with UNESCO.
She has published many articles and books including the following: Intervento Straordinario e Governo del Territorio, Melfi, Libria, 1993, Molise; Paessaggi del mutamento, Fratelli Palombi, Roma, 1998; Cittą Storiche. Cristina Bianchetti
Cristina Bianchetti graduated from the Milan Polytechnic, received recognition of her academic excellence in that her thesis was published and did her Ph.D. at UAV. She has been teaching in Pescara since 1992. She is a member of the Ph.D. committee for Urban Studies in Pescara and Venice. She has been editor of Urbanistica and is currently editor of Asur. She has been a member of the editorial committee of L'Indice since 1998. She has written for Casabella (1989-96) and now writes for Domus (2001- ). She has published the following works: La questione abitativa, Angeli, Milano, 1985; Conoscenze del piano, Angeli, Milano, 1989; Pescara, La Terza, Roma, 1997; Urbanistica e politiche di sviluppo. Alessandro Busca
Alessandro Busca is full professor in Planning of the Territory and started his academic career at the SVIMEZ. He was a member of the "Progetto 80" research group and has conducted a vast amount of research at the national and European level in the following areas: innovation; urban development; the infrastructurization of the territory; building development; environmental issues; and has edited many publications. While he held an appointment at the University of Reggio Calabria he was Director of the Urban Planning Institute, President of the Degree course in Urban and Territorial Planning as well as Director of the bilateral Ph.D. programme with Northeastern University (Boston). He has worked in the field of urban planning and has been a member of many working parties in charge of drawing up structure plans of vast areas. He was a member of the steering committee for Progetto Finalizzato Edilizia C.N.R.; has been member of the technical and academic examination panels for the Ministry for the Environment; and consultant for the European Community's Progetto Life-Ambiente.
He currently co-ordinates Modelli di applicazione della Valutazione Ambientale Strategica alla pianificazione urbana (Models for applying Environmental Strategy Evaluation to urban planning) - which is being conducted in collaboration with UNESCO at the "G. Sebastiano Carbonara
Sebastiano Carbonara is associate professor of Evaluation. He graduated in Agricultural Science at the University of Bari and subsequently undertook further studies in environmental issues (CSATA - Tecnopolis, Valenzano, Bari) and areas relating to urban planning as well as the real estate market (Masters studies at the COREP Centro studi Urbani Politecnico di Torino). He was awarded a scholarship form the CNR and formerly held a post as researcher of Evaluation at the University of Bari. He has conducted research/study for the MURST and the CNR and has been a consultant for public and private organizations on areas concerning the real estate market, territorial evaluations as well as territorial planning and the agricultural territory. Recently his research interests have shifted and he is concerned with evaluation and costs involved in restoration/renovation of buildings as well as feasibility studies on environmental issues. He is a member of the editorial committee and editor of the "Tribuna Aperta" column in the monthly GR - Estimo e Territorio (Calderini, Bologna).

Alberto Clementi
Alberto Clementi has been full professor in Urban Planning since 1987. He has taught at the following universities: Rome, Geneva and Algiers, where he was also co-ordinator of the Postgraduation en Urbanisme course and promoted the Sites Historiques course at the Ecole Polytechnique d'Architecture et urbaisme (1983-93). He was also invited as guest lecturer to the universities of Madrid, Valencia, Granada, Lisbon, Tunisi, Rio de Janiero, Bogotą, Guanajuato, Mexico City, Toronto and San Francisco. In Pescara he actively promoted the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning (of which he was director from 1991 to 1997) and the Ph.D. course in Urban Planning (of which he has been co-ordinator since 1993). His recent research interests have been in the following areas: the shape of the city and the territory; issues relating to the planning for parklands and the landscape; and policies dealing with infrastructures and public works. He has also been responsible for co-ordinating national research groups and has been a consultant for national administrative bodies ( the ministries for public works, culture and the heritage).
He has devised various urban and territorial plans and his publications include: Una visione del territorio italiano for the Ministry for Public Works; Rapporto sullo stato della pianificazione 2000, INU, Rome, 200-01; Paesaggio e sviluppo sostenibile for the Ministry for Culture and the Heritage; Conferenza nazionale per il paesaggio, Conference Papers, vol.1, Gangemi, Rome, 2000; Infrastrutture e progetti di territorio, Palombi, Rome, 1999; Le forme del territorio italiano (in conjunction with G. He also directed Quaderni Blu, one of the series published by the department. He contributed to setting-up the Societą Italiana degli Urbanisti (the National Association of Urban Planners) of which he is general secretary.

Walter Fabietti
Walter Fabietti was born in Rome in 1952 and graduated in architecture with full marks at the Universitą degli Studi in Rome in 1977. In 1981 he specialized in Urban Planning Applied to Metropolitan Areas at the above university. He became researcher in urban planning at Pescara in 1982 after having successfully undertaken a public examination held by the University of Chieti for three positions where he came first; he became associate professor in 1998. His has been vice-director of the review Urbanistica since 1998. He is married and has a son. His professional and research activity is principally in the field of urban planning and socio-economic analysis, as an instrument for evaluating specific policy sectors or for providing support to the decision makers in the field, and evaluation procedures for public and private projects. He has published various books and essays, both at the national and international levels, some of which include: Case e abitazioni in Abruzzo 1951-1981, (in conjuction with P.Avarello), Clua, Pescara, 1986; Progetti mirati e pianificazione strategica, Gangemi, Roma 1993; Il corridoio adriatico: i caratteri insediativi (in conjuction with A. Paolo Fusero
Paolo Fusero was born in Genoa in 1960. He started working professionally in the field of urban planning with Bruno Gabrielli in 1987. He was involved in the PRGs for Piacenza, Pisa, Paternņ, Parma as well as the PTC for Ragusa and various feasibility studies, projects and consultancy jobs at the national level. He was also senior director of the technical division at the Municipality of Parma from 1996 to 1998. He was visiting researcher at Tonji University in Shanghai (1991) and Waterloo University in Toronto in (1994). He has been teaching at the Faculty of Architecture in Pescara since 1999. His main research interests lie in the field of innovative instruments for urban planning. He has published extensively in his field and has edited the following: La cittą del porto, Genova, 1992; Un'idea nuova di Piano, Parma, 1997; Il Sistema Ibleo, Ragusa, 1998.

Carlo Lefebvre
Carlo Lefebvre is a newly appointed full professor of economic and political geography at the Faculty of Architecture, Universitą degli Studi "G. d'Annunzio", Chieti. He was editor-in-chief of the Atlante Economico e Commerciale d'Italia, published by Somea, and has conducted extensive research on the processes of transformation in urban networks. He is currently undertaking research on the monitoring and evaluation of community programmes. He is a member of the rationalization and simplification panel of urban planning for independent authorities and agencies upon appointment by the Ministry for Public Functions. He is part of the technical and academic staff of the Observation Deck of Public Local Services. He is a consultant for Formez and is in charge of the scientific sector of the Societą Italiana del Monitoraggio Pty. Ltd.

Roberto Mascarucci
Roberto Mascarucci is a newly appointed full professor in urban planning. He works in the field of planning and the territory and in particular he specializes in evaluating the efficacy of development programmes. In these areas he has published the following: Pianificazione territoriale e spesa pubblica, Gangemi, Roma, 1990; L'Urbanistica efficace, Sala Editori, Pescara, 1995 and Nuova programmazione e progetti di territorio, Sala editori, Pescara, 2000. More recently he has become interested in planning for sensitive zone areas and planning for territories which need to be protected environmentally; on the latter he has published Che fine hanno fatto i parchi? (PPC, n. 16/98). He has been a consultant for the Abruzzo region and is currently a consultant for the Assessment Committee for the Ministry of the Economy. He was in charge of the academic secretariat for the RETURB research; is the contact person for the "Appennine Abruzzese, Molisano" group in the APE research project; departmental representative for A.E.S.O.P. (Association of European Schools of Planning); faculty representative in the university's panel for International Relations; chancellor's delegate for Progetto Leonardo; and also in charge of the "d'Annunzio" exchange with the Delft Polytechnic, the Netherlands, and University of Lubiana, Slovenia.
Rosario Pavia
Rosario Pavia is a full professor in the Theory of Urban Planning and the Director of DART. His publications include: L'idea di cittą, Milano, 1982 and 1994; Le paure dell'urbanistica, Genoa, 1996-97; Territori e spazi delle infrastrutture (joint publication with A. Clementi), Ancona, 1998; Paessaggi elettrici, (editor) Venezia, 1998; Babele, la cittą della Dispersione, Roma, 2001. He was Visiting Research associate at the North Eastern University of Boston and Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass. He has co-ordinated several research projects concerning the Structure Plan for urban upgrading; is an expert in the field of port planning and is a consultant for the Senior Board of the Port Authority. In Pescara he has contributed considerably to promoting the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning and was editor of the department's review, Piano Progetto Cittą, from 1999 to 2001. He is currently the director of Adriatico, the review, and of the Babele book series (in conjunction with M. Ricci). He also works for the Direzione Aree Urbane ed Edilizia Residenziale, an office of the Ministry for the Infrastructure and Transport.
Mosč Ricci
Mosč Ricci was born in Florence in 1956 and is an architect. He is a newly appointed full professor in Urban Planning at the Faculty of Architecture in Pescara, where he has taught and conducted research since 1984. He was Visiting Fullbright Scholar at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University (Cambridge, Mass., USA) and visiting professor in various international schools of architecture, including GSD Harvard. He is a member of the academic board of Villard, an inter-university seminar programme.

Pietro Rovigatti
Pietro Rovigatti is a tenured researcher in urban planning. He graduated in civil engineering in Rome and did a Ph.D. at the Department for Territorial and Urban Planning in Rome in 1996. He is interested in urban planning and programming and in particular infrastructure networks in relation to the territory and the environment. His research so far has been concerned with the drawing up of the urban plan (1999, Laboratori di Quartiere, Aprilia); the production and administration of public space; the transformation of local identities in the context of settlement sprawl (Ph.D.thesis); and the inter-university review "Urbanistica pvs", directed by Federico Malusardi, DPTU Rome. In 1999 and 2000 he was part of the academic staff in the course, offered by the department, on Principles of Urban Planning. He has written numerous articles in periodicals on urban planing (e.g. in Urbanistica, e Archvio di Studi Urbani e Regionali, Urbanistica pvs and Marche Territorio). He has edited the following: Universitą e cittą, Palombi, Roma, 1996 and Un Piano per Durazzo, Sala Editori, Pescara, 1999. In 1997, together with Alessandro Balducci he carried out, on behalf of SIU (Societą Italiana degli Urbanisti - Italian Association of Urban Planners) an inventory of the research in urban planning conducted by the various universities on national territory; the results were presented at the Secondo Biennale delle Cittą e degli Urbanisti d'Europa, INU, Rome, 1997. He co-ordinated, under the supervision of Alberto Clementi, the drawing up of the Structure Plan for Monte Argentario (1994-99) and the Master Plan for Durazzo (1996-98).
Paolo Urbani
Paolo Urbani was born in Asmara, Eritrea, in 1945. He is a full professor in Administrative Law and lectures at both the Faculty of Architecture in Pescara, Universitą degli Studi "G. d'Annunzio" and Roma III University. He is a member of the ANAS management board. He and S. Civatarese co-authoured the manual Diritto urbanistico, organizzazione e rapporti (Giappichelli, 2000) and edited for the same editor La disciplina urbanistica in Italia. Problemi attuali e prospettive di riforme (1997). Urbanistica Consensuale, Bollati Boringhieri, Torino, 2001 is his most recent publication.
Lucio Zazzara
Lucio Zazzara was born in Torre de' Passeri, province of Pescara, in 1949. He has been associate professor at the Faculty of Architecture in Pescara since 1986. He has worked very actively both as an architect and as an executive in public administration. He has contributed significantly to the following: the drawing up of the regional law on urban planning in Abruzzo (LR 18/83); the preliminary PTP document for the Province of Pescara; and various landscape Master Plans for the Abruzzo region was significant. He wrote the PRG for Pescocostanzo (Aq.), Poploli (Pe.), Cannole (Le.), Casoli (Ch.), Rocca San Giovanni (Ch.), Alba Adriatico (Te.), Ofena (Aq.) and Frisa (Ch.). He was responsible for the design of the following: the PL in Giulianova (Te.); the PP 1 in Montesilvano (Pe.); the PEEP in Alba Adriatica (Te.); the PP for the historic centre of Castelfidardo (An.); the PIP in Celano (Aq.); the "Adriatic Centre" Congress and Commercial Centre (Pe.); the PdR for the water supply system in the historic centre of Penne (Pe.); the Business Centre in Debrecen (H); the ex-Camplone smelting works (Pe.), the rennovation for the "Fanti" Barracks (Pe.); the PdR for the historic centre of Sulmona (Aq.); the "Parco della Vittoria" (Pe.), the Santi di Preturo golf complex (Aq.) and other numerous building projects. He founded the review Rassegna di Studi sul Territorio (Aq. 1982).
